Is the red line still requiring transfers at JFK/UMass for Braintree service?

The MBTA website does not list any service alerts for the red line (see first screenshot), so I assumed it was running normally,

However, when checking the Google Maps route for my planned trip from Park St to Braintree later tonight, it lists that I will need to transfer at JFK/ UMass (see second screenshot), like I needed to do a few weeks ago when they were doing the Columbia Junction work.

Can anyone confirm if the transfers at JFK/UMass are still being required? This will determine how early I need to leave, and I want to budget my time accordingly.

Why are the bathrooms on trains and at stations always so gross

Whenever I'm on the commuter rail, there is a 50% chance that the bathroom will have a clogged toilet, overflowing trash, and/or no soap. When I'm in South Station, there is a 90% chance that at least half the stalls will be out of order or disgustingly unusable, half the urinals will be clogged or overflowing, and half the sinks will be filled with unidentified gunk.

I understand that its hard to keep high-traffic bathrooms pristine, but it seems a little absurd how often the restrooms are gross to the point of being borderline unusable. How frequently are they even cleaned?
