been tinkering with my etfs for a year and just realized voo and vti are 82% the same thing lol
ok so i keep doing this thing where i read something or watch a video and go damn ok i need to add small cap or cut international or go more dividends, then 2 to 3 weeks later i change it back
figured i was being smart holding 4 different etfs. voo, vti, vxus, schd. felt diversified.
then today i actually looked at the underlying holdings and apparently voo and vti share 500 of the same companies. 82% overlap. like im literally just buying the same thing twice
im not trying to beat the market or anything, i just want something i dont have to think about all the time. but now im sitting here wondering if im actually diversified or just collecting tickers that feel different
how do you guys actually know if youre diversified vs just owning a bunch of etfs that secretly all do the same thing? and at what point do you just say this is good enough and stop touching it
