Looking for people to build a local-first community platform with
I’ve been thinking about this project for a while and I’m trying to find people that would actually wanna build it together instead of me just sitting on the idea alone
The idea is basically a local-first community/social platform where communities can run their own spaces directly from their own PC/server and invite people through links/domains. Kinda like mixing community spaces, social profiles, realtime chat, creator spaces and project groups all into one thing.
Like imagine:
- a school hosting one for students
- a small city/community hosting one so people know what’s happening around them
- creators/youtubers hosting their own spaces directly
- friend groups making private communities
- dev groups building their own public spaces
People would have stuff like:
- profiles + pfps
- followers/friends
- posts/comments/reactions
- servers/communities
- channels/chatrooms
- DMs/group chats
- moderation systems
- bots/plugins
- realtime updates
- local/self hosting support
I also wanna explore stuff like:
- privacy/community ownership
- realtime systems
- self hosting
- local-first networking
- AI moderation running locally
- open source/community driven development
The goal is making communities feel more connected and controlled by the people actually running them instead of everything depending on giant centralized platforms.
I’m mainly focused on backend/infrastructure stuff right now but honestly I’d love meeting:
- backend devs
- frontend people
- mobile devs
- UI designers
- networking people
- people interested in realtime/community systems
- or honestly anybody learning and wanting to build something ambitious together
You definitely don’t need to be some crazy senior engineer either if the idea sounds interesting and you wanna learn/build with other people that’s enough.
Tech stack I’m exploring right now is mainly Go, Node.js, websockets/realtime systems and self hosted architecture stuff.Right now I’m mostly looking for:
- backend devs
- frontend people
- UI/UX designers
- mobile devs
- people interested in realtime/community systems
- honestly anyone that thinks the vision sounds cool
You definitely do NOT need to be some super experienced engineer either if you’re learning and wanna build something ambitious with other people that’s cool too.
Would love to meet people that are into networking, self hosting, realtime systems, communities, open source stuff or just big internet ideas in general
