Update & Thank you! - Blatant self-promotion and genuine question from a new local business owner.

A few days ago I asked where to post flyers in Iowa City for my photo and video digitizing business. You all were very helpful. I spent time hitting up bulletin boards today.

You also gave me a slew of other great ideas I hadn’t thought of, which I’ll continue to work through. Figuring out Google ads now.

I really appreciate the warm reception from internet strangers that didn’t need to help out! This is my last business post, but now that I have an account, I’ll stick around and add to the community when I can.

Thank you!

Blatant self-promotion + genuine question from a new local business owner

I’ve seen enough people get destroyed so I want to be transparent. l’m here partly to promote my business (I read the about and think it’s ok). But I also have a real problem I’m hoping r/Iowacity can help with.

I started Photal Recall recently. I come to your door, pick up your old VHS tapes, Hi8, 8mm, Digital8, MiniDV, and photos, digitize everything locally, and bring it all back. No shipping across the country. My folks wanted this service and it didn’t exist locally that I’m aware of.

The problem/catch-22: I need Google reviews to get found, but I need customers to get reviews.

If you’re a local business owner who’s been through this, how did you crack it? Where can I put up flyers locally that would resonate with potential customers?

Long-time reader, first-time poster. Thanks for not downvoting me into oblivion.
