Black Velvet Alocasia help
My black velvet is struggling and I need help. I’ve had it for about four years, and I don’t believe I’ve ever repotted, because, life! It’s been in chunky soil, watered when top was dry or more often plan was fully dried out. For most of its life. It actually lived in a not very bright, fairly humid but cool basement. I wouldn’t say it thrived down there, but it put out new leaves and it was doing OK. I moved about six months ago to an apartment with much more natural light, and it’s been more or less the same since then. I moved it recently to a small IKEA tabletop greenhouse set up that I just built, hoping to give it more humidity. It also lived under a grow light there, set up about a foot above the plant, and I ran a teensy USB humidifier a few times a week in there. I moved it to this spot because I noticed some leaf curling, and the soil in general seemed like it wasn’t drinking enough water. Since moving to the greenhouse all the leaves have curled up. It’s dropped several leaves and two others are pretty yellow. I treated it for pests about a month ago because I was worried about another plant in my collection. There’s almost no roots on the corms as you can see in the pics, so I’m suspecting root rot, and maybe also some leaf burn from being too close to the grow light? I’ve also read they are finicky adjusters, so maybe the extra humidity was too much?
How would you go about bringing this plant back to life? I’m going to put it in some water for the meantime as I suspect I need to propagate new roots before I can do anything else for it. Thanks for any help you can give!
