to DE or not to DE - pool filter replacement
Looking for advice on a filter replacement.
Currently i have a Hayward EC65 that is approaching 20 years old. For the last 2 years, i've been replacing parts here and there on it (grid plate, and then gasket this year) but honestly its time to get something new. Looking for feedback from the hivemind on what to go with. The filter will be paired with a VSP pump if that matters.
In order of preference, priorities for the filter system:
- Water clarity
- Ease of cleaning (incl. backwash)
- Minimal replumbing required
- If possible, not having to deal with DE. But not sure if i want to give up #1 for #3.
Options:
- Get another EC65 (or another DE filter?) - as much as i hate the filter and unscrewing the 20 bolts to then clean the 'fingers' (whoever invited this truly loves to watch people suffer) - i would not need to replumb the equipment pad which is a huge plus.
- Go with sand / glass media? Granted the glass will need to be replaced every ~5 years, i am fine with that. Plus backwashing without having to take a filter apart or reload DE is a huge win. Biggest concern with water quality
- Cartridge Filters? Local pools is pushing this hard. I thought they were the worse of the 3 in terms of clarity.
Looking for any opinions, or recommendations on what filters may suit the bill. Thanks in advance!
