A ranking of House of the Dragon ships on ao3
Hello, I made for fun this ranking of the top House of the Dragon ships on ao3, this one is a bit different because I'm ranking by using the filter "otp:true" which consists of showing only works tagged with your selected pairing. While this method is useful for finding which works may be ship centric, it's not perfect since it excludes all works that have multiple relationships tagged, even those tagged using "&".
I searched for the most popular ships, and those with more than a hundred works in their ship tag, or rare pairings that I have seen appear sometimes in fics. I didn't search for polyships or ships with characters that haven't appeared in the tv show yet like Nettles or Daeron the Daring (siigh).
I may have missed some ships, like for example I only realized after I was done that I completely forgot that Larys Strong existed lol but a quick search shows Alicent/Larys "Larycent" would’ve been 23th and Larys/Aegon II "Larygon" 32th in the ranking.
(If your ship isn't in the ranking and you still want to know how many works they have with and without otp:true you can ask me in the comments, I later compiled that data of the many small ships that didn't make it or that I forgot to include at the time.)
One thing I found curious is that although Aemond and Rhaenyra are the two most extremely popular characters for ships (they have 8 ships each in the whole ranking, many within the Top 12) when they are shipped together... they ranked way lower than I expected, they have barely a hundred works and fewer than half that with the otp:true.
Anyway, if your ship is in this ranking, what made you ship them? or what do you like the most about them?
My favorite ship is Davron, they had great chemistry despite how briefly they appeared in the show, I like the Blackwood/Bracken houses' ancient infamous feud thing they've got going on, very Montagues vs Capulets. Also, I'm a sucker for good ol' enemies to lovers lol.
