What's the best way to be an ethical tourist in Mexico City?

Hello everyone!

I'm a solo female canadian tourist spending a week in Mexico City. I, like many, have seen the reports of the anti-gentrification protests, the anti-gringo graffiti, the general resentment that the locals have toward people coming in and jacking up the prices.

I'm wondering what the best steps to take are to reduce friction and be as respectful as possible. I'm already sleeping in a family-owned guesthouse (not AirBNB) in Coyoacan (not Roma Norte), and I speak decent enough spanish to communicate with people without demanding english.

Is there anything else I should be respectful of? Any places where my presence wouldn't be welcomed?

I want to make sure that I'm as good of a traveller as I can be and I'd love to hear what peple have to say.

Thank you!
