'Smartest' is a bit vague but i'll define it in two different ways and i'm looking for either.
First would be most knowledgeable about physics and how magic might work.
Dumb-smart would be "I know light has a max speed so now the system gives me the Light Arch-mage class", while real smart might have the MC (& Author) as actual genius who does real calculation and gives a complete lecture on relativity/Maxwell/quantum to explain their magic system with a minimum of hand waving.
Secondly, is more 'street-smarts' MC's. They finds novel or niche solutions to their problems. The bad ones break all suspension of disbelief by having the MC try something extremely obvious like opening a portal at the bottom of the ocean and we just have to accept nobody tried it before.
Note: I'm specifically not interested 'socially smart' where the MC is extremely persuasive and good at manipulating people.
Any suggestions?
