It’s a weekend of all Championship Group action as all 6 teams will be at RMS this weekend! With the table closer than ever, let’s see how these sides match up!
🌟TEAM OF THE WEEK🌟
A stunning PFL matchweek ends with some standout performances, so let’s look at the PFL Bible Team of the Week!
In goal, it’s our Player of the Week - Aguilas UMak’s Enrico Mangaoang, who made some stunning stops including a phenomenal penalty save to hand Manila Digger their first loss of the season.
Unsurprisingly, the entire Aguilas back line gets into the team, after superb performances across the line from captain Richard Talaroc, Bryan Palpal-Latoc, Reynauld Villareal and Richard Tetteh.
The Brazilian pitbull Pedro de Paula is the other Aguilas star to feature, as he is in midfield alongside the goalscoring Julian Perilla of Mendiola. 4-goal scoring Yuta Yamaguchi fills in the CAM role, with teammate Jerome Abarca on the left and Stallion’s Juan Trujillo on the right.
Up top, Kaya’s Julian Myrbakk gets the nod after a superb finish against Stallion.
Manager of the Week unsurprisingly goes to coach Oliver Colina after a heroic win over Manila Digger.
🏆LEAGUE TABLE🏆
Four more matches over the weekend and they have had some big ramifications in the tables!
Starting with the Classification Group, Mendiola’s win over Army now guarantees that army will be finishing last place. Meanwhile, Garelli now move 5 points clear of Tuloy behind them.
In the Championship Group things have taken a big turn. Kaya’s draw with Stallion moves the reigning champions above Dynamic Herb Cebu on goal difference, whilst Stallion opened the door for Aguilas to leapfrog them following the latter’s heroic win over Manila Digger.
What a weekend of PFL action!
⚽️FULL TIME⚽️
Valenzuela PB-Mendiola broke into double digits with their points as the defeated Philippine Army 2-1 in a tightly contested game.
After a cagey first half, Perilla’s rocket opened the scoring soon after the break. It didn’t last long though as Gumban smashed home to equalise just 10 minutes later.
Mendiola got their winner as the in-form Onyeka Obi reacted first to a loose ball to send the Mendiola fans home happy.
A tight match, and another excellent game in this hard fought Classification Group!
⚽️FULL TIME⚽️
Don Bosco Garelli United all but cemented their place in 8th after a fine 4-2 win over Tuloy.
In an entertaining clash, both sides showed good attacking intent, but it was again the in-form Yuta Yamaguchi who made the difference, crashing home 4 goals in a blistering attacking display.
Tuloy showed some good touches but were left wanting, and will turn their attention to their final matches.
⚽️FULL TIME⚽️
Aguilas UMak handed Manila Digger their first defeat of the season with an incredible 1-0 victory in an unbelievable match!
Richard Tetteh was the goalscorer early on following a spill from the usually-reliable Mike Asong, but this was the story of two penalties in the first half. The first, a definite penalty, was blasted over by Modou Joof, and the second, a dubious decision, saved by the impenetrable Enrico Mangaoang.
This was a stunning performance by Aguilas, and Mangaoang will correctly get all the plaudits. This was a performance that was all heart and all determination. WHAT A GAME.
⚽️FULL TIME⚽️
Kaya and Stallion Laguna shared the points in a highly entertaining 2-2 draw in our first match of the weekend.
Stallion’s Captain Fantastic Abraham Placito opened the scoring with a superb snap shot in the first minute, but Julius Myrbakk hit back with his first goal since his strike against Stallion on 08 March to draw things level.
Kaya then took the lead right at the end of the first half, with Martini Rey bundling home from close range.
Juan Trujillo’s superb rifled shot restored parity in the second half, and both sides were unable to find a winner despite some incredible chances late on.
What a match!
🌟TEAM OF THE MONTH🌟
A bit of a delay as I was on holiday, but without further ado here is the PFL Bible Team of the Month for April.
Unsurprisingly after their perfect month, the team is dominated by Manila Digger. In goal is Omar Njie, who didn’t concede a goal in April and grabbed a wonderful assist. He’s defended by teammate Jordan Jarvis, as well as Stallion’s Ken Pryde and Kaya’s Pathy Malumandsoko.
In midfield, it’s Digger’s duo Modou Manneh and our Player of the Month Kenji Nishioka, who has been at the heart of Digger’s success this month.
In the hole in front of them is the in form Yuta Yamaguchi of Don Bosco Garelli, and he’s joined by teammate Kai Kimura on the right wing, whilst Kaya’s Shuto Komaki is on the left.
Up top it’s a lethal duo - Manila Digger’s Pa Ousman Gai alongside the in form Onyeka Obi of Valenzuela PB-Mendiola.
Unsurprisingly the Manager of the Month has gone to Coach Kim, but plenty of plaudits should be given to his coaching partner Bass Liu as well.
What do you guys think?
👀MATCHWEEK PREVIEW👀
We have 4 tantalising matches coming up in the PFL this weekend, as the Championship Group kicks off and the Classification Group enters Round 3!
Let’s see how these sides stack up against one another.
🌟TEAM OF THE WEEK🌟
Two more matches in the Classification Group which served up absolute treats. Here is your PFL Bible Team of the Week!
In goal is Mendiola’s Keyvan Mottaghian, who made a huge number of saves to earn his side a point. He has a back 3 in front of him containing Maharlika’s Yuya Kashiwabara, Mendiola’s Yohann Fofana and Garelli’s Banjo Mahinay.
Julian Perilla’s goal earns him a spot in the middle alongside Army’s Nikko Palacio, and it’s a Maharlika duo on the wings of Jin-hyeon Kim and Eric Giganto. Up front it’s Daniel Oppong alongside the brace grabbing Yohan Mbida!
Our Player of the Week is Yuta Yamaguchi, who was involved in all 3 Garelli goals including a screamer to equalise the match late on.
Manager of the Week has been awarded to Maharlika’s Coach Moon Hong following a fine win over a physical Army side.
⚽️FULL TIME⚽️
Tuloy got back to winning ways as they punished an aggressive Philippine Army side with a superb highlight reel of goals in a 5-1 victory.
Army had captain Cortes sent off after Tuloy had put three passes the Troopers, and were lucky not to see Ariola sent off after a disgusting punch on Denmark Uracoy. Jalique’s stunning second goal opened Tuloy’s scoring in the second half before Grizola volleyed home a fifth.
A terrific result for Tuloy to get them back to winning ways.
⚽️FULL TIME⚽️
Maharlika survived a late scare as they edged past Mendiola 3-2 courtesy of 3 Jin-hyeon Kim free kicks.
Coach Moon’s side, who are already guaranteed 7th, started slightly slowly, but got their first goal when Kim’s whipped free kick was deftly glanced home by Rilloraza. With the lead secured, another free kick from Kim was unfortunately turned into his own net by Mendiola’s Obi, before Kim turned scorer with a beautiful curling free kick into the side of Mottaghian’s goal.
Mendiola provided plenty of fight, and ensured Maharlika had to keep their concentration up with a late attempted comeback. The in form Nikki Arañas put the ball on a plate for substitute Aningalan, before Obi’s excellent work ended with Enzo Lucindo unfortunately putting the ball into his own net.
An electric start to Round 3!
