Fishing with nerds - four day trip May long weekend
'sup nerds?
I am going fishing for pickerel opening weekend (may long weekend), May 15,16,17,18 at Shining Tree in northern Ontairo - it's a 9 hour drive. Drive up Friday May 15, fish Saturday and Sunday, return home Monday. (pics are from our tip last year).
I have room and equipment for three students to come with. First three to post 'I'm in' get a spot in the truck.
Outline:
- I am a dad-level old UW Alumni.
- I will handle pretty much everything. Bait, tent, fishing equipment, boat, food prep, etc.
- You need a sleeping bag, a sleeping pad, and a fishing license for the Saturday and Sunday. Sleeping gear can be rented from the Outers Club, Ontairo fishing license can be purchased online. That's it, basically just bring your sleeping gear and come fishing.
- Dress appropriately. May in the north, it could be 20. It could be snow.
- The tent is a hot tent, we will have a woodstove to keep us warm and dry at night.
- All are welcome - everyone. However, for this trip I would like to take newbs - students who haven't been out with me before. New faces only! And it's perfectly fine if you've never fished before.
- I can accomodate most food requirements i.e. halal.
- Since this is a four day trip and costs are not inconsequential, we cost share equally four ways. After the trip I add up the cost of gas, food, bait, any other expenses etc and then we each pay our share. In the past the cost for the four days has been $200-$250 each.
- In terms of alcohol, mj, etc, I don't care. You may variously sit at the campfire at night, get absolutely shitfaced and then crawl 10 feet to the tent, or you can not touch anything. There is no pressure either way, but if you plan to imbibe it's byob.
I've done many trips with students to this location. It's beautiful, on the edge of a lake and remote enough that there's no cell phone signal. I know where the fish are so we are going to catch fish. If there's interest and no objection, I might bring the boom sticks as well.
The trip is unofficial and unafilliated. Just me going fishing and willing to take some folks along.
