A halflings love for his pony

Something happened at our table that was too funny not to share.

Our halfling fighter was getting annoyed at our DM for seemingly targeting his pony mount all the time causing him to have to buy several mounts over the course of the campaign.

After watching a Zee Bashew cartoon he got the idea of marrying his pony to get the +2AC bonus and if the DM killed the pony he would technically be a widow and be able to marry a new pony and continue the cycle.

He prepared for the bit and role played it well only to get stopped when the cleric pointed out the pony wasn’t a humanoid and that the Ceremony spell wouldn’t work on a beast.

Without missing a beat the halfling said that the church of Tempus was discriminatory and that he would find a different religion that would accept the love between a halfling and pony.

We all laughed but he’s now made it part of his characters quest, asking new religious figures what their position is on pony marriage and if they would use a miracle to make her a humanoid.

It’s been a lot of fun and he doesn’t even care about the bonus to AC anymore because as a side effect of the drama the entire part is now committed to keeping the pony alive and the DM no longer deliberate targets it.

The Comey family vs. DOJ

A good article detailing the ongoing lawsuit against former FBI Director James Comey as well as punishment for his daughter and son.

James Comey is a life long Republican to led the investigation into the Trump administration.

He is also responsible for releasing a statement about Hilary Clinton a week before the election which many allege hurt her in the voting box and allowed Donald Trump to squeak out a win for his first administration.

He is now under investigations second time for an instagram post in which he displayed sea shells saying 8647 which the administration claims is a direct call for death to the president.

This is unlikely to result in a conviction given that there is no law against the phrase and tee shirts and merchandise with the phrase is freely available for purchase.

Newsom tries to balance California’s books — and head off 2028 liabilities

A good article detailing election prep from Gov Gavin Newsom to persuade the America people that contrary to the Joe Rogan narrative of California being a failed and collapsing economy under Democrat mismanagement.

While Newsom rightly points out the diverse economic industries in the state and its progressive social programs, it’s also true that the state is experiencing the same economic troubles as everyone else due to Covid, the war in Ukraine and the most recent fallout of the Trump foreign and domestic agenda.

I’ve heard Newsom speak about Californias economy to Charley Kirk and Ben Shapiro and was impressed how he was able to politely but firmly debunk their common talking points and communicate insider information I’ve never heard for any political pundit or news organization before.

That said, Newsoms ability to make cuts and sacrifices in California to balance the budget is an entirely different animal which involves thousands of powerful people in the state.

I think this will be a real test of his political abilities and if successful will demonstrate his fitness to be president.

White House cuts $1.3 billion in Medicaid payments to California

The Trump administration is withholding Medicare money in retaliation of what it says is failure to take fraud seriously in California.

This is in addition to $300 million they have withheld from Minnesota citing similar reasons.

CMS Administrator and former television star Dr. Mehmet Oz has repeatedly alleged that fraud has been taking place in hospice care and that the lack of complaints means “his agency is on the right track”.

Here is a link to the full press conference with vice president Vance and Administrator Oz.

U.S. oil rush into Venezuela tests Trump’s democracy promises

A good article detailing the negotiations in Venezuela over the past few months.

The crux is American trade deals for Venezuelan resources but with no sign of any changes with the existing regime other than now being receptive to American companies.

The concern is the people of Venezuela looking for real change and to improve the standard of living not cooperating with the current government and the rise of a potential revolution or replacement of conditions don’t improve soon.

Lots of news slipping through the cracks about major trade deals taking place over the past month.

When I first started American politics as a hobby back in 2006 I was told that if I wanted to really understand, I needed to remember three things.

Follow the money.

Receipts or it didn’t happen.

All politics is local.

I think I understand that better now and I believe these trade deals other countries are making that are bypassing America and Trump are the biggest indicator that Trump, MAGA and Republicans are going to fail.

Culture war BS and internet slop only works when people are distant from the consequences of policy.

The consequences of voting in Republicans are less money for America. Less clout and influence for America and less investment in America.

I feel sorry for my friends south and hope real conservatives are able to take back their party some day before they deal too much damage and reduce America to the low standard of living common in Republican states.

A good article detailing the ongoing trade talks between Canada and the United States.

The deadline to extend the United States-Mexico-Canada agreement for another 16 years is July 1st.

It's been a wild year of tariffs, retaliatory tariffs, and a massive multi-billion dollar disentanglement of the Canadian economy from America. That said, while tourism travel and trade is down it hasn't stopped.

The gunman has been reported as killed. No word on if they shot anyone.

I hope people remain calm and don’t use this as an excuse to be violent.
