Sliding North-South Bed

I know this has been discussed a lot and I’ve seen people have more issues than success. I’ve been working on a version of the Skorva rail bed that addresses those and wanted to share.

The van is a 25’ Transit 148 high roof. We wanted the shorter version for maneuverability but with a full queen bed since our dog is a 100lbs. I took the 4 rail, 2 slat group approach. The garage walls are 3/4” ply secured by rivnuts into the van walls at the height I wanted for the garage and battery bank. On top of ply edge, I sanded smooth and applied high molecular tape. I then made some scrap slides from ply and melamine where it contacts the tape.

The whole thing acts like a giant drawer slide and I’m really pleased with how well the prototype works! I’m going to use it for a couple trips to shake out any bugs and then pull it all out to do the finish work and move on with the build. The bed frame will get a solid front that meets flush with the garage wall when closed, and expose a seating area underneath. The tri-fold mattress will also act like a couch when in “day mode”. Hope this helps someone!

EDIT: Said king but it’s definitely a queen mattress!
