I had been fired with cause on the grounds of insubordination in october of last year. I didnt agree with their reasoning or the way they went about it but left it alone with respect to the company and I figured that I wasnt eligible for EI so I didnt apply. With my new employment I got a layoff for shortage of work and applied for EI thinking that it didnt matter about my previous employments reason for letting me go. Well it was investigated, I was shared with what they had said, the Agent said it sounded fishy on their end compared to mine and would further investigate the matter. Well my EI claim came back and was approved including the hours from the job I was let go from.

I'm wondering with this does that mean I was was unjustly/wrongfully dismissed in the eyes of canadian/albertan labor laws? Did they not follow their own set policies leading to my EI being approved? A friend had mentioned that her husbands company had employees that took them to court for wrongful/unjust dismissal and they ended up with a settlement. I'm wondering if thats an option here with already proof that is the case if my EI was approved. Bascially asking here before I look into getting a consult with a lawyer seeing if anyone else has been in a similar situation OR has more information on matters like this.
