Taught Mom how to turn today.

I have been fighting back happy tears for hours now. Naturally, my mom has been a recipient of many turned pieces. She always wondered how the inside of a bowl got turned and when I offered to teach her how, SHE ACCEPTED. Now, my mom is a badass in many regards (30+ year nurse, mostly spent as the head RN at a group home for very handicapped people) but has never really been exposed to machine tools, not to mention use them.

We got to go through the WHOLE process, from picking out the pretty lumber, rough cutting to blanking size, bandsaw for kinda round and THEN the lathe.

She said she had a lot of fun and wants to make another bowl sometime.

What a day of all time. Sorry for the short video...was too busy enjoying the everloving out of the present moment. Still had to capture a bit of the magic. 🖤

This is the stuff I'd like to see somebody make a YouTube video about...

What's your routine when cleaning the area around the therapy station? I make sure the lathe is unplugged, dabble in a bit of extracurriculars and toss some nice downtempo tunes on the shop stereo. The rest is just inevitable...slow and thorough, but inevitable nonetheless. DC is too far away to be of any help, shop vac is too loud for the sleeping kids, so it's back to basics with a broom and the like. More or less just a music listening session with a feeble attempt of chores mixed in.
