Sudden drop in heart rate
Hello. I (F61) am wondering what kinds of arrhythmias cause a sudden drop in heart rate which I have been experiencing frequently for the past few weeks. At first I thought the feeling of pounding heartbeat meant my rate was increasing but then I got out an oximeter and saw that actually the rate was dropping. For example, I was washing dishes in the evening and felt that familiar flip flop in my chest. Checked the oximeter and at first my number was in the mid 80s. After a couple seconds it dropped to 53 and then to 44-43 where it stayed for about a minute all while I felt very strong palpitations. Then it went back up to the 60s and 70s and the pounding feeling went away. My GP had me do a week of a holter monitor (no results yet) and I’ll see a cardiologist later in the month. Just wondering what possible reasons there are for this so I can educate myself ahead of my meeting with him.
