Only 10 corps have ever won the Best GE Caption Award at DCI World Finals. (Here's the most recent win for each of them)

Has judging changed since 2014? And do you think we'll ever see a score of 99 again? (and who will get it?)

Blue Devils 2014 seems to have aged pretty well since it first happened. Most people generally agree that it might be the cleanest show in DCI Finals history, & that the 99 was deserved. Other "99" scoring corps still hold some weight but get at least a little more criticism as they age.

But as someone who didn't follow DCI closely back then --- Did DCI judging practices change since 2014? And are these practices preventing another 99 from happening? The weirdest thing that sticks out to me is the 4 straight Perfect 20s in GE.

Personally I think another 99 will likely happen at some point, but it's going to be more difficult than ever. Just seems like it's far more unlikely a corps will have a monopoly on every subcaption.

  • High Percussion & Brass have been won by 6 different corps since 2022.
  • BD used to own the Colorguard caption, but SCV, Crown, and now BAC have made it much more of a fight.
  • GE & Visual is usually between only the top 2 corps.

But all that said, I'm not sure if a 99 will happen in the near future. Seems like BAC & Bluecoats will be picking each other's weaknesses apart, and Crown getting Keith Potter back seems huge for improving their GE. BD is always a threat. Not to mention SCV waiting in the wings with the Rennicks, Michael Gaines, & other big name staff.

If I had to pick a corps it would be SCV or Bluecoats since they seem to have the most stability, but I doubt it'll happen soon.

But what do you think? Will it happen again? Who do you think will get it and why?
