The car died on the highway, and it was apparent that the battery was dead. The battery was old, so I replaced it and that was enough to get me home.

Once home, I checked the voltage across the battery with the car running, and it was below 12v, so I replaced the alternator. With the new alternator, I was seeing 14v or so (I don't really recall, but more than 13)

Then, last night, it died again. When I checked the voltage across the (new!) battery, it was 5v :-/

I jump-started it, and checked the voltage with it running, and, again, less that 12v :(

WTF? Thoughts?
