Mom Passed Away on Monday, Need Some Advice
Location: Utah, Salt Lake County
Hi everyone, my mom passed away on Monday.
She fought issues with drugs and alcohol. She has no assets, money in the bank, etc.
My siblings and I would like to go in her apartment and gather some of her things to keep, but we do not want to take on responsibility of the apartment.
The complex is asking us to sign an Indemnification Agreement, which I believe would make us liable for damages, cleaning and removing her items/trash, this months missed rent, and anything else they can charge us for. They’re also asking for documents proving power of attorney, but we never did anything like this with my mom.
Does anyone know what my options are or if we must sign this to just go in and grab a few items? I’ve tried looking online, but I’m finding conflicting information.
