I have a permanent disability and I’m also currently dealing with grief after the passing of a guardian.
I have a few tax years that I haven’t filed yet, mainly due to disruptions during the lockdown period. The Canada Revenue Agency has been understanding and has only asked me to focus on specific years at this time.
However, I’ve been working with a free tax clinic, and they are insisting that I complete all outstanding years at once before they proceed. I’ve explained that I’m currently not in a position (mentally or practically to manage all of them at the same time).
I only want to file one year right now and handle the rest in stages. I’m feeling really frustrated because I’m trying to stay compliant and do things properly, but I’m being told they cannot accommodate a phased approach, even though CRA itself has been flexible about it. I’m not refusing to file, I just need to do it in a way that is manageable for my situation.
Has anyone dealt with something similar or know what options I might have?
Edit: They called back and rescheduled my appointment without consent so I could do all the years I've missed. They had no regard whatsoever to my permanent disability.
