Golf Pace Etiquette
I’ve played for many years but this is the first time this has happened to me. We were a group of two in a new course, and around the 5th hole we saw a lone player behind us so we let her through. Right behind her came another group of 2. Two older men. My parter and I had to hit two balls from the tee, which is uncommon and had not happened today. But as my partner went ahead to his ball, one of the men behind us called out to me and started complaining “why are we practicing on the course” and “this is unacceptable” and “we should let them play though”. I saw them playing before and they were just making short shots. I explained that we already played and we will be faster from now on. He angrily said they will play through. He didn’t catch up with us after that. Only after we took a longer break after the 9th hole we let them through.
In the 17th hole we saw another group behind us of 2 catching up to us (we were getting very tired from all the walking). But since it was almost the end I thought it made no sense to wait and let them through in the 18th. They had to wait a few minutes for ys to finish putting on the 18th. The lady later came up to my parter and started complaining and mocking us and saying how slow we were was terrible. Did we actually do something wrong? Just wanna understand.
