Fast-paced folk horror recap?

Or is that an oxymoron? In my experience, they seem to be a bit more of a slow burn. Does Slewfoot by Brom move along pretty quickly? The Only Good Indians by SGJ? Anything by T.Kingfisher?

Edit: stupid autocorrect— should be recs, not recap.

Still confused by Nate’s turn

Now that my daughter is thoroughly wrapped up in Lasso-land, I’m on rewatch 7 or 8 (maybe more?). For the life of me, I still cannot wrap my head around Nate’s turn to the dark side. I’ve tried parsing the reasoning Nate gives to Ted, but on rewatch, I can’t connect the dots. I imagine there’s an element of “never know what’s going on inside someone’s head,” but I just feel like there has to be a deleted scene that explains it a bit more.
