I have only had medium to small dogs. Think shelties and chihuahuas. They have all been calm and lovable and well… easy to redirect and train. They are easy to carry, take on my bike, take to the vet, they don’t take up space on the bed, etc. I have never had the desire to have a big dog because all of my friends have an I see what life change that entails.
My husbands life goal (hyper fixation) has been getting a German shepherd. His friend had one and he has held onto its image. I want him so badly to have his dream realized but I am terrified of them after a bad dog attack on both myself and my small dog.
My question is can they be trained to be lovable and lower their prey drive to be good around our current dogs and a future baby? Please give me good stories so I can calm down!
