New body of work
Currently making some mugs and bowls and this friend came out of the cone 10 salt today!!
Hi — I’m trying to make porcelain orbs into Christmas ornaments and I’m converting them from 120V to 12V lighting, but my wiring/drivers look very clumsy and distract from the piece. I’m a ceramic artist working on a tight budget and want a clean, discreet solution that’s affordable and scalable for gifts (and possibly future sales).
What I need:
A thin, unobtrusive lead from eachornament that “disappears” in the tree(ideally green or neutral).
A long enough lead so the ornament canplug into either a power cord or the endof an existing string of Christmas lights.
A compact, tidy way to attach or hide the12V driver (stable on a branch or trunk) sowiring looks streamlined andprofessional.
What I’ve tried:
Cut a 120V cord, wired it to an AC→12Visolated converter, then soldered 20AWG wire to a G4 socket. The green 20AWG I bought has a silicone slip-proofjacket that was hard to pull throughparacord.
Stabilized joints with high-temp tape andcovered the driver and connections withlarge adhesive-lined heat shrink tubing —it sealed well but the extending cords stilllook bulky and messy.
Open to:
Component suggestions (slimmer wire,low-profile drivers, 12V power supplieswith dimmers, inline connectors, etc.)
Better wiring/strain-relief or concealmenttechniques
Affordable, repeatable assemblymethods or ready-made parts that give ahigh-end look
Any practical ideas, part recommendations, or step‑by‑step approaches to make these look professional and discrete would be hugely appreciated.
