Red?

Red?

Saw this spot near Carson City, Nevada. There's some photospheres on it, but they're both taken in winter, covered in snow, so you can't see much. It looks like a quarry or gravel pit, but it's so vibrantly red. Nothing around it is nearly as red. Does the spot have a name? What is it exactly?

First time on babel, is this rare?

I heard about the library of babel recently, so I typed in some random numbers, and I swear there's a face. Is this rare at all?

Northwest of Mirny, Russia. It's a massive, precisely planned grid of lines, each block about 0.3 x 0.3 km. I thought it was some sort of logging operation like the ones in the northwest US, but there are large sections that are blurred out with evenly spaced clearings. I still think it's some sort of logging thing, but maybe it's related to the mining in Mirny, idk. There must be another post about this somewhere, I'm sure.
