The only beneficiaries of the Voting Rights Act gerrymandering were corrupt black representatives

Dems are (rightly) freaking out about the SCOTUS ruling taking away their precious majority-black districts in the south. To them, it constitutes "stripping democracy from black people", but what has guaranteed representation gotten black voters in the south really?

All they get are one of two kinds of representatives: Either octogenarian power brokers like Jim Clyburn and David Scott (who literally just died in office after insisting he was healthy enough to run again in 2026); those reps are known for their insane corruption (read about Clyburn's many, many pay-to-play schemes). The other kind are rudderless, feckless, empty suits (like Wesley Bell) who rake in corporate PAC money by the truckload but they'll never get any pushback from the Dem establishment (and even leftists) because god forbid you criticize a black politician.

Maybe, just maybe, the end of the VRA will force dems to broaden their appeal beyond race-based grievances...but probably not.
