Bylaw Officers will be giving away free dog treats in West Van Parks over the summer.

^(Good job my dog can't read or we would be visting every park every day.)

Would you cycle downtown if the Stanley Park bike path was safer

I was in a bad bike crash on this bike path and it is unsafe, too many fast cyclists overtaking when it is not safe to do so and I am reverting to driving downtown.

I want to know if this is a common problem.

Background: I am in my late 50s and have been an executive at a large US tech firm for over 8 years. I reside and work in BC, though my paystubs and contract come from the company's Ontario-based operating entity. I am roughly 24 to 48 months from my planned retirement.

My role is being "eliminated," on Monday and I have been told I can "reapply" for a new role. I have a significant RSU grant vesting over the next 4 years.

The Situation: I have not signed anything and will be consulting a lawyer. However, I want to ensure I don't miss any critical "day zero" steps.

Questions:

  1. Jurisdiction: Since I work in BC but am employed by an Ontario entity, which province’s employment standards and "Common Law" precedents apply to my severance?
  2. RSU Vesting: Given my seniority and age, if I am terminated, is it standard in BC/ON to receive the value of RSUs that would have vested during the common law notice period (which I assume is 12-18+ months)?
  3. Mitigation/Reapplying: Does the act of applying for this "replacement role" affect my "duty to mitigate" or potentially waive my right to claim a full severance package if the new role is not a comparable match?
  4. Privacy Request: Is it strategically sound to file a PIPA/PIPEDA request for my performance history and internal "role elimination" documentation before involving a lawyer, or should I leave that for my counsel to handle?
  5. Evidence Preservation: Aside from my employment contract and RSU agreement, what specific internal documents should I ensure I have copies of (on a personal device) before my access is potentially cut?
