I am a first year pre-reg Msc student who is nearing the end of my first placement block and I feel like my placement site which is quite a big hospital is not letting me get as involved as I hope and I feel I am getting behind on positioning. During my first placement block I have been in outpatients , inpatients and ED (A&E) and during my placement I have tried to get very hands on trying to position, collimate and undertake each X-ray independently however the inpatient and outpatients X-ray department is located in the same area and has multiple radiograohers and AP/supernumerary in each room and they are usually in a rush to get the X-ray done and the next patient and automatically take over when I try to undertake the X-ray. When I ask to do undertake the X-ray the radiograohers say the department is very busy and there is little time for students to practice with positioning. I feel like I am getting behind with everything as students in my year group who are at other placement sites get a more hands on experience compared to the placement site I am at. I have raised this issue with my practice educators however they say the department is very busy and the APs and Supernumerary need to get their practice in and they recommend I watch and help out with cleaning and prepping the room. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and how I should approach this issue I might contact my uni about this.
