Bought an expired domain once shared by Cristiano Ronaldo — resale value, SEO value, or marketing potential?
I recently bought an expired .com domain that was publicly shared by Cristiano Ronaldo several years ago during an online campaign. The original posts are still online today on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook, so the history behind it can still be verified.
The domain itself doesn’t contain his name or any trademarked terms, but because of that exposure it picked up some historical backlinks and still has a recognizable backstory.
Right now the domain is empty, and I’m trying to understand what the smartest move is. Does something like this realistically have resale value, or do buyers mostly care about hard SEO metrics today? I’m also wondering whether a domain with this kind of history could be used as part of a marketing stunt for a software company, assuming there’s no suggestion of official affiliation.
Curious how people with domain or SEO experience would look at something like this today.
