I appreciate everyone’s advice so much! I wasn’t in a good state of mind when I wrote my first post, sorry if it was incoherent.

I’ve been sitting with my dog (alone in our largest closed-off room) for the past hour or so, about 2h after the incident. I’ve been giving her space like most of you suggested, and she eventually came up to me and sat with her butt pressed against my leg (first pic) and let me pet her. She also brought me her toy, then took a nap.

She seems somewhat vigilant, but doesn’t flinch or pin her ears back.

I’ve been talking with my mother about the incident and how we can keep my brother and the dog separate. Potentially, we could separate them through scheduling - only letting her roam around the house freely while he’s at school, but I feel like that’s too restrictive on her. I’ve also brought up the option of taking her with me when I move out for uni… but since she legally belongs to my parents, it’ll be tough. There’s also the issue of finding pet-friendly rentals that aren’t insanely expensive since I live in Australia (housing crisis mention 🇦🇺). My parents aren’t unreasonable but it will be hard for them emotionally, though hopefully they’ll come around. Either that or let her spend more time with my grandparents.

Would appreciate if anyone has ideas.

As for the vet, we’ve decided it’s best to go tomorrow morning; it would be too stressful to stuff her into the back seat where it happened right now. Poor lass won’t even go near the garage. She doesn’t appear to be in pain, hope she’ll be alright until then.

My dad agreed to come home early, so we’ll see if she’s okay with men again.

Her name is Rosie and she’s a 1y/o French bulldog from our local rescue. Very playful and sweet girl. Please wish her a strong recovery ❤️‍🩹

To preface, brother has severe autism - he was sitting in the back of the car with my dog, on all of his behavioural meds. I asked him to turn down his iPad while I backed out which pissed him off and he hit her. He’d never acted so abusive and unreasonable before, I was in shock. He’d never done that when I asked him to turn it down before

I screamed at him, got her out as quickly as possible, she was belted in and was pulling as far away as she could. She scrambled out of the car and sprinted into the bushes

She’s only one year old and has only ever known fun and joy, always lying on the floor belly up and wanted attention from everyone

Now she barely wants to be fed treats, hides in bushes/her bed and stays curled up - not aggressive at all though. She stays somewhat near me but at least 2 metres away from me

Doesn’t seem to be in pain but I can’t be certain, will go to vet asap . I know it will stress her out more😭

Typing an hour after the incident

Do I give her space?? Is there anything I can do to help her? Will she ever fully recover? Please help us
