my X4 CrossPoint settings
My X4 arrived a couple days ago, and I think it’s a great little reader!
This isn’t my first rodeo – neither with e-readers, nor type formatting. I’ve spent decades consulting in graphic design, and it breaks my heart when I see people using full justification.
You know the look – huge random blocks of space, and often only two or three words on a line. Sometimes it’s a matter of personal taste, but sometimes people just don’t know any better.
So I’m posting the settings I’m using on the CrossPoint firmware Reader page. They reflect my personal tastes, but they might be useful as a starting point for those who don’t have much experience with text layout.
The text sample is from Woken Furies, Book 3 of the Takashi Kovacs series by Richard K. Morgan. (If you haven’t read them, be sure to start with Book 1 – Altered Carbon!)
I hope this is helpful for some of you.
P.S. – If you want to have screensaver images in horizontal/landscape format, you still need to save the .bmp files in vertical/portrait format – but rotated 90° in the vertical frame, so that the image is standing on its side.
Otherwise, you’ll just wind up with a tiny image in the center of the portrait format screen. You will probably need to use Photoshop or another dedicated graphics app to do this – I doubt that the web apps will allow it. (I could be wrong – I just haven’t used them.)
