What kind of Locations would players want in an Urban Environment?

What kind of Locations would players want in an Urban Environment?

This is a game I am working on called "The Road Behind Us"

It is a game inspired by I am Legend, where the main hook is the human/dog bond. You can play as your character, and switch to the dog at anytime. Use them to scout, distract, or squeeze into tight areas you cant reach.

I'm currently in the process of planning all the locations in the game, and all the interiors you will be able to explore. The map will start off small in early access, but we plan to focus on density. In a perfect world, there would be tons of interiors to explore, but its a lot of work and they each need to be unique and have a purpose.

Right now we have three locations completed, The grocery store, cafe, and laundromat. Each one has their own resources, and tier. For example, the grocery store would be more infested with zombies, but have a huge stash of food in the storeroom. But maybe in the cafe, you find the recipe for coffee, and less zombies.

I would to love to hear any suggestions that you would have for a location in the world. The game takes place in a district of NYC, or at least one that is inspired by it.

Thank you for any feedback!

Does anyone else see the similarities between the two?

I saw this post earlier today about the new data center their building in Utah, the one that’s the size of 2000 Walmarts; or really a small city

Profits are usually what drives business to do things at scale

But most of us know that none of these companies are turning a profit, yet they keep trying to go bigger. If they aren’t concerned about money… what are they doing? Money is usually the ultimate motive, that’s why that call it currency. It’s your stored electrical current.

I swear we’re in the pre renaissance explained in the animatrix.

For a time… it was good.

Any tips on how I could break up the "Tiled" Feel of this building?

I am working on the lighting and set dressing for my game called "The Road Behind Us"

I'm looking for any advice or tips on how I could break up "samey" look of the circled building.

Any feedback is appreciated!

This is a game I have been working on for awhile now called "The Road Behind Us"

It is an urban survival game inspired by I am Legend, and the main hook is you get to play as the dog. Use them to scout, distract enemies, or sneak into places you couldn't fit in as a human. I have been optimizing and finally got to the point where I not only have 60 fps, but can also add and expand to the world while maintaining performance in the game. Personally I think a locked 60 FPS still looks amazing, but I know that's the bare minimum for a lot of people now a days. Learning how to optimize has been challenging, but super rewarding to see the game run this well. Especially in an urban environment

For anyone interested, this is running on a RTX 3060, i7 6700k, and 32gb ddr4 RAM. If you have a 30 series card and above, you should be able to run the game when it comes out.

Just wanted to share this screenshot I took while filming the trailer, any feedback is appreciated!

I have so far spent almost a whole month optimizing my game. Its not easy, and really optimization is never "Finished." Everything you add has a cost to frame time. It has been really awesome to learn about all the profiling tools, and to be able to track down what exactly is tanking performance. 60 FPS is the minimum these days, but I still think it looks great.

The name of the game is "The Road Behind Us" and it is a survival game about you and your dog in an urban environment. The game is inspired by I am Legend, and the main hook of the game is the bond between you and your dog, you can even play as the dog if you want. You can use them as a scout, distract enemies, or squeeze into areas you wouldnt be able to as a human.

Optimizing the game has been tough, but honestly a blast. Now I just cant get enough, I need more FPS!!

Just wanted to share this cool screenshot I took while Filming the Trailer. Any feedback is appreciated, playtests coming soon!

Unreal engine is such a beast.. and I swear sometimes you have to tame it. I have spent two weeks optimizing my game to get a locked in 60, at 1440p with path tracing, lumen, and lumen reflections. I'm working on the trailer, and man its gonna be awesome. As a solo dev, it has been insane to get to this point. Now I just gotta get over 100 zombies on screen at once! (Easier said than done)

The name of the Game is "The Road Behind Us" if anyone is interested. It is a game inspired by I am legend where you can play as the dog.

Optimizing has been kinda difficult, but rewarding , especially when doing an urban environment.

Just wanted to share this screenshot I took, Thanks for any comments and feedback!

Edit: should have said ray tracing, I got a little to excited lol.

This will be the first time I’ve messed with any kind of tracing, and I’m on a 3060 with an i7 6700k
