George Mason transfer G Kory Mincy (6’2, 185 lbs) is a Gamecock

our first transfer portal acquisition of our men’s basketball offseason is a fairly good one, in my opinion. Mincy is a bona fide sniper (38.9 3P% on 5.3 3PA per game this past season at George Mason), and while he is definitely somewhat undersized and limited with his defense and playmaking, simply having a reliable, consistent perimeter scoring option should be a godsend for us. I’m now more curious to see how this all shakes out

Madina Okot has been officially ruled as being out of eligibility by the NCAA, ending her collegiate career

for those unfamiliar with Madina’s situation: prior to playing NCAA basketball here in the United States, she played college basketball for two seasons in Kenya, her home country. she played college basketball here stateside for three seasons, and she is only 21 years old.

clearly, we cannot give her anymore eligibility when football players and men’s basketball players can stick around until they are pushing their mid-20s /s

seriously, though. the NCAA sucks and has no consistency or uniformity when it makes these decisions, but I can absolutely still appreciate Madina for being a Gamecock and a damn good women’s basketball player for us

Cam Scott will be entering the transfer portal

based on what I had been able to glean from insiders prior to this point, I thought that we were going to retain Cam, and so this is a mild surprise to me. it’s very unfortunate that things never worked out here for him, but he strikes me as a player that could certainly excel at a much lower, more manageable level of competition with his athleticism and skill he displayed in high school. one way or another, I wish him the best!

Christ Essandoko will be entering the transfer portal

Christ has forsaken us—and on the day after Easter Sunday, at that! </3

in all seriousness: our interest in Essandoko never made any sense to me, and his play this season bore out the fact that he was one of myriad very questionably competent big men that our staff signed from the transfer portal last offseason. I wish him all the best, but just like Jordan Butler and Elijah Strong, Christ should almost certainly transfer down to a mid-major level, IMO
