Can Modern Jungle Producers ever return/emulate the 90s sound?
I'll start by saying I'm not a producer, engineer or DJ so my knowledge or vocabulary of how Jungle tunes are made may not be correct...
...BUT, I'm hoping people get the general gist of what I'm asking:
Modern Jungle sounds very clean, clear and 'perfect' (this is not a complaint exactly). I suppose because it is created digitally(?).
Old School Jungle by contrast often sounds a little rougher or muddier.
Even when compositionally a Modern track has all the quirks/sounds of an Old School 90s classic, the 'cleanness' instantly makes it obvious that it's made in the 2020s.
The best example of this is DJ Hybrid's ALL OVER ME: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wyYDmuMnQVY
It has all the hallmarks of an old school jungle track (minimalist soundscape, police siren samples, repeating vocal line, classic amens, etc) and yet you can just tell it's a modern track because it's almost robotically perfect and clear.
So, I guess my question is:
>Why can't 'modern' production software convincingly re-create the 90s jungle sound?
Is it because modern audiences / producers / tastes don't want or like the slight muddiness* of an old school Jungle track?
*Muddiness, grittiness, darkness, etc - not sure the right word...but hopefully y'all know what I mean! :)
