Looking for advice on first Kart
I'm looking for some help understanding what would be the best model to consider for my first kart.
For clarity - I'm in my mid-30s and understand I don't stand a chance at being remotely competitive since I didn't start doing this as a zygote. I had the chance to spend some time in a friends kart that he raced as a kid and It was intoxicating. My plan is to just do whatever the karting equivalent of track days is. Rental karts are inconsistent and boring to me, and I like to wrench. I have the tools and space to fix whatever I buy, and the transportation to get it to my local tracks. I come from the motorcycle TD world and want to dip my toe in here.
It seems like a lot of the karts that are available on the used market are pretty reasonable, but I have no idea what I should be looking for as far as platform is concerned. There seem to be quite a few, and I'm sure there are considerations like parts availability and compatibility with new stuff.
TLDR: if you had $2500-3000 to spend on a kart what would you buy (assuming you could do any repair/maintenance work yourself)? I'm located in the northeast US, if that matters.
