Books exploring the origins of beliefs with tech
The most interesting part of Thor 4 was the prologue where Christian Bales character was wandering the desert with his daughter, praying, yearning for help, and when he meets their god, he’s just a fatass enjoying grapes not listening to the calls of his followers.
Similar story in the book American Gods where what people believe is the lifeblood of the gods. (Zeus in USA being a Slob vs Nordic Zeus a muscular deity with a staff)
Most recently I read a book called Fountains of Paradise from Arthur C Clarke that explore building a space elevator on a sacred temple, the only place it can be built in the world of the novel. I loved the religion vs technology discussions in this book.
Looking for something that explores the yearning of humanity that creates a tipping point of a people that create these belief systems/ bonus points if it explores the religion vs tech aspect (Zeus vs Mr Tv or whoever from American gods) and the friction that comes with it.
