This has happened several times recently, so I wanted to look into how many times it's occurred throughout history. Turns out that it's largely a recent phenomenon; there have been more in-state postseason matchups in the last two seasons than there were total before 1990. I also accounted for whether or not they took place in the home state of both teams. This happened on 16 occasions, while on 10 occasions both teams had to travel to a different state to face off.
