The vibe is completely different and it sounds rather sad, where John is the lonely captain. I heard, Paul then wrote the basic idea into a happy childrens song matching for Ringo's voice. I love the official Yellow Submarine, got me into The Beatles as a kid. But I'd love another version with John's initial vibe. Kinda like Revolution and Revolution 1.
I think it's an amazing video for the song. It's not too serious. We can see the lads performing in the Sgt. Pepper uniforms. Also the spontaneous synchronized footstomp between Paul and John is funny. What do you think about the video and the song in general?
