This is a very unfortunate situation for our family. We have a dogo argentino named Enzo. He is 6yrs old, approximately 145lbs. We have had Enzo since he was about 10 weeks old and purchased him from a breeder approximately 2 hours north of us. 19 months ago we welcomed our daughter (first child) into the world. For the first year our dog mostly acted empathetic, indifferent, or curious (especially if she had food) but unfortunately he is now showing signs of aggressive resource guarding when around her. While he has always had some resource guarding issues specifically with food, it was pretty manageable. Unfortunately that same management has not been working now that our little one is a little older. He now shows signs at a distance (6ft or so) when it comes to the little one. Some context, we usually just feed him in his cage and there is no issue, we also always pet him when we first give him his food to try and curb the guarding behavior and have not had an incident since first owning him. In most all other situations he is mostly unphased by anything going on around him. He is off leash trained (though we don't do much of that these days) and mostly just ignores other animals in the neighborhood. He can be protective or highly suspicious if strangers invade our bubble so we typically avoid letting anyone new to him touch him until there is some sort of established rapport (treats help expedite that lol). Regardless, we cannot continue to have him in our home with the issues that have been coming up with our daughter. For now we have him in a separate part of the house but now he is mostly alone and that isn't a life for a dog that very much wants to be around his family. We also tried reaching out to the breeder who essentially told us "if I can't find him a home in a week we will have to put him down" which is something both my wife and I feel is completely unnecessary. We also tried reaching out to a local rescue here (highly recommend by folks in this group) multiple times but have not heard anything back. We are stuck between a rock and a hard place. We would love to find a good home for him. Please if you or anyone you know would be interested in him, we would love to talk. Due to the fact that these breeds can be put in abusive situations we would like to do some form of due diligence on anyone interested. Thanks in advance.
