Who do you actually target for branding outreach? Feeling lost with our Ideal Customer Profile

Hey folks,

We run a small branding studio and honestly, cold outreach has been a mess for us lately. Not because of the messaging, but because we're not sure who we should even be talking to.

The tricky part with branding is that it's a one-time thing. Do it well and the client won't need you again for years. So unlike a retainer service, we can't rely on repeat work to fill the pipeline we need a constant stream of new people who are at exactly the right moment to invest in their brand.

We've been going back and forth between targeting newly funded startups, fresh businesses, e-commerce brands prepping for ad spend, or even agencies that white-label this stuff. But honestly we're guessing at this point.

A few things I'd love to know from people who've figured this out:

  • Which of these actually responds to cold LinkedIn/email outreach?
  • Are you using anything like Apollo or Clay to build these lists? Any filters that actually help?
  • How do you keep the pipeline healthy when your service is essentially one-and-done?

Would really appreciate any real experience here, not just theory. Thanks
