Difference between working for UHD vs. UH as staff?
Hey everyone! I was wondering if anyone could share insight on the work environment and culture at University of Houston vs University of Houston–Downtown.
I’ve heard some things in the past about UH having issues with staff pay/treatment, but I’m not sure how accurate or current that is.
Has anyone worked at both (or at least one of them) and can speak on the differences? I know it probably varies by department, but I’d love to hear any “in the know” perspectives…especially around work-life balance, management, and overall culture.
For context, I currently work at a community college where, if I’m being honest, the pay isn’t great (below 40k), but the benefits are pretty nice. We get Fridays off during the summer, have a wellness program that allows about 1.5 hours a week to work out (up to three times a week), and we also get one work-from-home day per week. And my current team/management is pretty laidback.
So I guess I’m trying to figure out…are those kinds of benefits realistic to find at UH or UHD, or would I likely be giving that up for higher pay? I’m debating whether it’s better to leave for a higher salary or stick it out and see if an internal opportunity opens up.
