Moving from Colorado to LA, advice?
We (me and two roommates) are considering moving out to California this summer to just get our feet in the door to get into the animation field, since it’s mostly out there, but we’re struggling a bit. Mostly with finding a nice but affordable place to live as close as we can get to LA— we’ve been looking at West Hollywood (but seems sketchy?), Glendale, Koreatown, downtown LA? But honestly if we can just get to Cali and get minimum wage jobs, we can move closer when we actually get an animation job. I’d love to hear any thoughts on trustworthy locations around there! We’re considering Glo, the Cleo, DaVinci, etc… looking for 2 bedroom apartments in the 2700 range with AC and parking, in-unit laundry preferred. Thank you!
Edit: I only said Weho is sketchy bc one of my Colorado-based roommates went to a single place there and reported that it was sketchy lol, it’s my bad for generalizing but we don’t know, none of us have been to Cali for longer than a week! Forgive me! 😭 We have degrees in 3D Animation and are very aware of the industry’s current issues, but it seems much more likely to get a job in our field, make connections, or even get a foot in the door in Cali rather than CO, that’s all. We’ve been trying for years from where we are, but it just feels so stagnant and impossible without being local to the major animation studios. But considering all the money we’d have to pour into going there just to hope we can make those connections, there’s a lot to consider, we know. Thank you genuinely for all of the advice🤍
