Got hacked. Any precautions?
I’m not even sure how, if I’m being honest. I’m certainly not a tech wizard but I know basic internet safety. My account had been made in like 2017-18 when I was pretty young. I was in a couple of servers, but nothing sketchy. Nobody ever sent me any images or links. I don’t pirate media.
The email I had connected to my account was a burner one from some free email site that I’d lost access to a few years ago not because of any hack but just there wasn’t a real reason for me to remember the password. I don’t even remember the site. Id have to go digging for it. My suspicion is perhaps there was some kind of data breach for the site and because my discord was the only real thing linked, that’s what led to this? Is that even possible?
I’d paid for nitro for a short time a few years ago but I’d long since cut the card and trashed it for my current one. My phone number was connected to the account too, I think. I know a bit before I’d gotten hacked, I’d told a couple of people my phone number in messages, which is the only real thing I’m anxious about besides the obvious of some bum reading my embarrassing messages between people. Is there any real concern in me needing to change phone number? Or anything else?
Friends who were on discord have sent me screenshots of the account now and it seems they’ve just changed the profile. It doesn’t seem to be sending any weird links or anything to anybody from what I’ve heard. Maybe they just wanted my account for the year or something?
