I’ve been splicing Dyneema for a while now, making Whoopie slings, daisy chains, soft shackles, etc.

In all of this, I’m trying to keep my suspension organized and tidy, with as few extra parts as possible. I had the idea to splice a piece of shock cord through the dyneema as an attached tie.

What do you think? Does this compromise the strength at all? A little? Dramatically?

I haven’t hung on this piece yet, I am curious to see what the dyneema does to the shock cord. If anything interesting happens I’ll report back.

I was inspired by a YouTuber (I don’t remember the name) making a Mjolnir mallet, and decided to take a crack at making my own.

The center of the head and the handle are walnut, but the faces of the head are from a pallet I took apart. The wood is super hard, incredibly smooth, worked very nicely with hand tools, and looked very grey prior to finishing. The finish is just some food grade mineral oil I had on hand.

I’ve primarily padded on lakes, streams, and rivers (flat water to class 1) but I have the goal of working up to sea kayaking.

On some of the bigger lakes I’ve been on, I faced waves that were 2-4 ft high, but nothing close to what I would face launching from the coastline.

I know that I need to get my roll solid and consistent , but otherwise, what’s a good way to work up to paddling the sea?
