Focus
Been with the company 6 years now, both as IC and people manage. I’ve been in my role for about a year now, Back in March, my manager shared a tracker with leadership principles and goals. At that time, I explicitly asked whether I was in “focus” or on any form of performance plan, and I was told no. I also documented this confirmation via email to him.
Following that, we moved to weekly 1:1s; however, many of those meetings were skipped. I did not receive any feedback, recaps, or clear guidance on my performance. I continued updating the tracker, and it was marked as “green,” which reinforced my understanding that I was meeting expectations.
Additionally, I was never informed that I was restricted from applying to other roles. As i know this is a thing with focus.
Recently, after applying for another internal position, I was informed by the hiring manager that I am on a coaching plan and therefore ineligible to transfer. This was the first time I became aware of being on any form of performance plan.
Do I have a chance to fight this? I know alott of this is not policy and if someone is in focus all of this is red flags and normally is grounds from removal from focus. Also its required to tell me i cant apply out and also if i ask i am to be told i am in focus. As i have had individuals in focus before under me.
I honestly dont care too much about this role or to stay with this manager. I tried to apply out and found out that way I was in focus.
My income actually drops off like $30K YoY from 2026 to 2027. So it makes it easier to find a role elsewhere within that new pay range. Ideally i would prefer to stay as long as possible collect my stocks in Aug, Nov, and Feb, get a severance payout and find another company that treats people better.
Any feedback or advice helps!
