Hey everyone, first off, congratulations & same pinch to everyone who got accepted into Google Summer of Code this year!

When I was writing my own proposal, one of the most helpful things I did was read through past accepted (and rejected) proposals to get a feel for the expected structure, timeline, and level of detail. To keep paying this forward, I have set up a central repository to archive GSoC 2026 proposals:

https://github.com/satwiksps/GSoC_archive_2026

If you applied this year, whether you were accepted or rejected, it would be a huge help to the open-source community if you could contribute your proposal.

There are also links in the README to the 2025 and 2024 archives if you are a future applicant looking for inspiration right now.

If you are planning to apply next year, feel free to star the repo so you have it bookmarked for when you need it. Let me know if you run into any issues with the PR process!

According to timeline, organisation mentors can view the selected projects. Any more hints/changes or leaks ?

Anyone got contacted by their org ?

was feeling stressed about the selection process, so I did some digging. I am not 100% sure this is perfect, but here’s a simplified breakdown of how it works:

Step 1: You apply. You submit your proposal.

Step 2: Mentor review. Mentors check if you meet their baseline requirements (like making at least 1 PR or being active on Slack etc).

Step 3: Interviews (sometimes). This totally depends on the org and the mentor.

Step 4: The Org's Priority List. At this point, our part is done. The org ranks their top contributors across all their projects into one master priority list. They have to do this without knowing how many contributor slots Google will actually give them.

Step 5: The org sends their ranked list to Google and requests a certain number of slots google decides how many they actually get (which can be less than requested).

Step 6: The Final Cut. Let's say the org gets 2 slots from Google. The top 2 people on their priority list get accepted.

Note: If the #2 person gets accepted into a different org that they prioritised higher, they drop off this list, and the #3 person gets the selection..
