Most extension devs are reading their Chrome Web Store analytics wrong

Been growing Chrome extensions for a while and recently went deep into the CWS dashboard. Turns out half the metrics don’t mean what most people assume.

Quick examples:

“Weekly Users” counts people who installed your extension and disabled it months ago. It’s not active usage. If you’re using that number to measure retention, you’re fooling yourself.

Conversion rate panic is usually overblown. Productivity extensions average 8-12%. Dev tools 10-15%. If you’re above 15%, stop tweaking your listing and go find more impressions instead.

The one that really got me: a 4.8-star extension with 200 reviews will dramatically outrank a 5.0 with 12 reviews. Google treats review volume as a trust signal, not score. That explains a lot of the “why are my impressions flat” posts I see here.

I wrote up the full breakdown with specific benchmarks by category, red flags to watch for (like when net negative installs for 7+ days means you should stop all acquisition work), and a weekly review checklist split by growth stage.

What metrics do you actually check weekly? Anyone here tracking in-extension analytics alongside the CWS dashboard?

We rebranded! ExtensionBooster is now AppBooster

We rebranded! ExtensionBooster is now AppBooster

Hey everyone 👋

Quick update from us: ExtensionBooster is now AppBooster!

Our domain is moving from extensionbooster.com to appbooster.net. That's really the only thing changing. Same team, same logo, same features, same everything you're used to.

Why the name change?

We've been growing and realized we want to help more than just browser extension developers. The new name lets us expand into more markets and bring the same tools and value to a wider range of app developers. More markets = more opportunities for all of us.

What this means for you:

Your account and all your data are completely safe, nothing changes on your end. All your existing links and bookmarks will automatically redirect. Your subscription and benefits stay exactly the same.

Just bookmark our new home at appbooster.net and you're good to go!

We're really excited about this next chapter. Bigger name, bigger vision, but still the same mission: helping developers like you grow.

If you have any questions, drop them below. Happy to answer anything!
