This murder was allegedly committed at the behest of NYPD Lieutenant, Charles Becker. Becker was corrupt and often used his position to extort protection money from racketeers who operated in Manhattan. Horowitz and his gang would end up going to the electric chair for Rosenthal’s murder in 1914, Becker followed them a year later in 1915.
