This was my first time reading any of Phil's work and I've noticed he's got a few other series I could read next and I'm eager to jump straight in.
So basically I'm asking which series is most similar to IGS in these ways:
- powerful protagonist (or one that grows powerful quickly).
- MC focused (not many POV swap chapters, I tend to skip them)
- does 'impossible' things that shock important/powerful figures.
- Isn't overly reliant on other people.
One important thing for me: I usually dislike party-focused series because side characters often end up slowing the protagonist down or constantly needing saving. That’s normally a deal breaker for me. IGS was one of the few exceptions where the group dynamic didn’t ruin the experience for me.
The series I’m considering are:
- Chronicles of the Black Gate
- Dawn of the Void
- Throne hunters
After reading the descriptions for book one of each, these are my concerns:
- Black Gate: I’m worried Aso might not feel uniquely powerful or especially impressive compared to the world around him.
- Dawn of the Void: It sounds extremely interesting, but since it’s only three books long, I’m concerned the MC may never reach the kind of insane power progression I usually enjoy in LitRPGs (most of the ones I read are 8+ books long).
- Throne hunters: The political aspects sound great, but I’m worried Harald might end up being more reactive than proactive.
If anyone could suggest which one to read next I'd be very appreciative, I'm hoping the replies are full of people telling me my worries are completely unfounded!
Thanks!
TL;DR: Which of Black Gate, Dawn of the Void, or Thronehunters is most similar to IGS in terms of a powerful/fast-scaling MC, mostly MC-focused story, and lots of “how is that even possible?” moments?
