How strictly do you adhere to the rules?

I've been Keeper on a few different short campaigns and find myself rarely consulting the book for rules. I think there are two main rules that I've followed for my campaigns: the hunters can't defeat the monster without finding out its specific weakness, and I'll never tell a hunter to roll something unless they first say they're going to take an action (and then I'll interpret their action into a roll). Other than those two rules, I tend to just dive head first into storytelling with my players and leave the rulebook behind. I'm wondering how everyone else does it. MotW seems pretty light on the rules anyway, so it seems like the perfect system to just play it looseygoosey and focus on the story.

I have no idea what I'm doing!

I have an entire fiction tabletop rpg story recorded. It started as a fun campaign with friends, evolved into a podcast project, and then devolved into a breakup of friends and no one but me wanting to work on the project. But, I'm determined to get this thing properly going. I've been uploading episodes for months with literally 1 listener (me). Even my parents aren't interested in listening... There's only one problem:

I have no idea what I'm doing!

Ok, that's a bit of an exaggeration. I know a little bit what I'm doing. But, the problem is, I'm only one person and I have very little social media networking savvy and absolutely no existing online presence/audience pool to bounce off of there. With no followers on the socials, I get as many eyes on my project as I would NOT posting.

I guess what would help is to say what my goals are for this podcast. I'm not looking to OPTIMIZE my earnings or whatever. I'm not going to sit and fret over if I made a penny more or less every week, I'm not really looking to make any money at all. I want people to listen to the story and enjoy it. That's it. I don't want to have to spend a shit ton of money to do that, so the most effective bursts of ad disbursement for the least amounts of $ to get some earballs on the show and have them disseminate it from there would make me happy.

If anyone has any advice on what to do, I'd really appreciate it!

I posted yesterday about Scunch. Mackamey was able to take him in. His eyes are already much better and he already gained .4 of a lb in half a day. If you need your Scunch needs met, head on down to Mackamey! He's a sweet little guy with a lot of love to give.

Found this guy in the middle of the road today, eyes so gooped up he couldn't see. Took him to the vet and got him some eye drops and dewormer, but he's too small to check FIV or for flea treatment. My roommate and I are away for most of the day for work and already have a cat so we're not sure Scunch here will have a good time locked in a bathroom all day every day so I was wondering if any fur foster parents or WFH people were looking for a lovable little purr-bucket to care for.
